Why marriages come to an end

You may have heard that the divorce rate in the United States is roughly 50%. However, the truth is that there are a lot of factors that determine your likelihood of getting a divorce such as your age or whether you are getting married for the first or second time. Furthermore, issues such as financial infidelity, adultery or other problems in a relationship may play a role as to whether you find yourself before a West Virginia judge.

How infidelity harms a marriage

Infidelity of any kind can result in a divorce because it breaks the trust between partners that is so vital for a successful relationship. Although it may be possible to salvage a marriage after a single bad act, your spouse may never feel confident about your commitment to the relationship.

Career choices

If you have a career that requires you to work long hours or to move around constantly, it could put strain on your marriage. Alternatively, conflicts may arise if you want to work outside the home but your partner thought that you’d stay home to raise the kids. A recent survey found that these issues were the leading predictor of divorce.

Money can ruin a marriage

Having limited funds in the bank can make it difficult to plan more than a few days or weeks at a time. This is because you never know if you’ll be able to afford your home or apartment beyond the first of the month or if your car will be repossessed.

Sometimes, having too much money can also be problematic because you or your spouse may not know how to manage it or have different ideas about how to do so. For instance, if you are a saver, you may resent your spouse for what you feel are frivolous purchases.
